In Japan, abandoned infrastructure is known as haikyo ( 廃墟) (literally "ruins"), and the term is synonymous with the practice of urban exploration. Although targets of exploration vary from one country to another, high-profile abandonments include amusement parks, grain elevators, factories, power plants, missile silos, fallout shelters, hospitals, asylums, prisons, schools, poor houses, and sanatoriums. Many sites are entered first by locals and may have graffiti or other kinds of vandalism, while others are better preserved. Sinister Subway: The system of tunnels is connected to the metro system of Berlin, where some scenes of the movie take place. Not Quite Dead: After Denis shoots Armin, he tries to kill him by hitting his head several times using a metal pole, but he fails and Armin comes back to kill the escaping Denis and Lucia. Neck Snap: Armin necksnaps Lucia using his bare hands. Mutilation Interrogation: Armin straps Lucy to a chair, threatening to cut off her nose if she doesn't answer his questions and attempting to cut off her ear, but is stopped by Denis. Their guide, Kris, is German, Lucia is from Venezuela, Juna is Korean, Denis is American and Marie is French. Multinational Team: The main group of urban explorers are tourists visiting Berlin. Let's Split Up, Gang!: The group splits up several times, making things easy for the killer. Not making sure that Armin is dead while he's lying on the floor, unconscious. It's the cause of everything bad happening afterwards. Marie taking a pic of Kris while he's trying to cross the pit, the bright flash causing him to lose balance, making him fall and break his leg. 
I Ate WHAT?!?: Denis finds out that the food served by Armin was human meat, most likely of Juna whose head he finds in the fridge, resulting in a Vomit Indiscretion Shot.Lucia gets close to escaping as the last person of the group, first by meeting a man at a subway station who gets killed by Armin when trying to get help, shortly after when she manages to get onto the train, and lastly when Armin's gun malfunctions.

Evil All Along: To Denis and Lucia, Armin seems like a helpful guy at first, helping them to get Kris out of the pit and giving them food. Dwindling Party: Hunted by Armin, one by one is killed. Developing Doomed Characters: It takes quite a while before they actually get in trouble. Cut Phone Lines: Armin cut the phone lines, making it impossible for Denis to use the phone. He also kills Denis using a gruesome torture method that he has learned during war, which involves skinning the victim's torso. Cold-Blooded Torture: Armin maintains his own torture chamber underground, where he "interrogates" Lucy. 
Claustrophobia: The movie takes place in a system of sometimes very narrow underground tunnels.
